After a long hiatus I am getting back into the swing of things. Just finished this large 42"x53" sewn fabric piece.

Michaela Romesburg: My work is primarily concerned with challenging the preconceived notions of what quilting is and blurring the lines between craft, design, and fine art. At first glance the work appears to be a large, painted graphic image, but as the viewer moves in closer, it becomes apparent that the work consists of intricate pieces of fabric sewn together that has been stretched onto a canvas. The traditional concept of quilting has been transformed into a painting. The juxtaposition of nature and geometric shapes are key elements in my work. The contrast of delicateness and rigidity gives the work a balanced and modern quality. Imagery is taken from realism, but transformed into a surreal and otherworldly point of view. Each piece represents fragments of an imaginary world of my creation, building upon it with each new piece. I hope to transport the viewer into a new realm as they view each one.
